MULTIMEDIA PACKAGE

Multimedia package is an integration of multiple media elements audio, video, text, animation e.t.c into one sung tic and symbiotic whole that exits more benefits for user than any media can provide use it.

A multimedia system can be defined as – a communications networks, computer platform or a software tool is a multimedia system if it supports the interaction with at least one of the above- mentioned mediums.

THE COMPONENTS OF MULTIMEDIA PACKAGE

The components of a multimedia package are:-

1.    Text: - Text is one the most popularly used mediums of appearance, in 99% of the occasions txt provides the core structure to the package.

2.    Picture/ Graphics:-picture enhance the overall look of a multimedia package, picture express more than normal text can. It can be created using the following ways: by using a drawing tool like MS PAINT (from Microsoft inc.) using digital scanner or original photographs taken with the help of a web camera or its equivalent. The size of these images in term of pixel, resolution i.e. does per inch (Dpi), number of colour that the system monitor can display at one time. Colour depth is the amount of binary data, the computer reserve for describing each pixel.

3.    Video and Sound: - Sound is used to set the rhythm or a mood in a package. Speech gives an effect of a language (pronunciation) for instance. Sound files in various sound file the MP3 can be easily transmitted through the NET. Voice over IP is an upcoming field with a great future. Sound can be recorded into a mix or from any other medium like or cassette player onto the PC.

METHODOLOGY OF MULTIMEDIA PACKAGE:-

To developing a multimedia package, some methods are as follows:-

ANALYSIS AND DESIGN:-

This method is very necessary for developing the multimedia package. During this the concept and the design will be defined and major goals and deadlines will be established. A demonstration prototype can be built, using an authoring tool and some sample content material off the self audio and video material can be used for this. The product created is a hypermedia package that uses digital video stored on a CD- ROM, an authoring system capable of supporting CD video was required. Another requirement was platform compatibility since both Macintosh system and window system are popular in higher education.

CONTENT CREATION:-

The creation task addresses the work involved in actual creation of the product. In the R2D2 mode, prototype is collaborator developed with the instructional designer experts in the relevant specialities and students. It will included the selection of video clips from material available on videodisk or tape, of audio from records, tapes or cassette and choice of art work for scanning.

MAINTENANCE;-

For developing the multimedia package, the systems may be used to collect information on every key stroke and to identify both those areas of the system where users go most frequently and those they do not visit at all. The means of updating may include disks, local area network, modems on switched telephone lines, ISDN connections and radio.

 STAGES IN DEVELOPING A MULTIMEDIA:-

·       Pre- production

·       Production

·       Post-Production

·       Completion

Mayer articulated seven principles useful for guiding the design of multimedia instruction. Under these principles, students have been shown to achieve greater retention and transfer.

·       Spatial contiguity principle

·       Temporal contiguity principle

·       Coherence Principle

·       Modality principle

·       Redundancy principle

·       Individual difference principle

INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA IN EDUCATION AND

                             TRAINING:-

Multimedia emerges out of the need to share information and knowledge on the research and practices of using multimedia in various education settings. It covers guidelines for designing multimedia learning materials, application of multimedia in different educational setting, issues related to integration of multimedia on the web and development of sustainable multimedia learning environments for multi- cultural population.

The dynamic, rapidly evolving technological environment characteristics of the present and the future represent ongoing challenge for education striving to make use of this new multimedia technology to the best advantage for a more effective learning environment and more meaningful outcomes.
